Agreed. There are a lot of original reds to choose from but Barchetta is not one of them. See http://www.365gtc4.com/Reference/ColorChart.aspx Doesn't mean it isn't pretty.
This car has obviously been improved upon over time in order to get that ellusive Platinum Award but it is quite nice now.

Yes, there is a Canadian pin there in one of the photos. I am surprised that the car won such an award given that the rear exhaust section is missing the rear resonators and looks like someone welded a set of "cherry bombs" from Kragen.
As for the color- my 365GT2+2 is that same color, and I like it on the 2+2, but I do not recall ever seeing a C/4 that shade of red. Perhaps the "Barchetta" is a printing error? Maybe it's really "Rosso Rubino"? I think that Rosso Barchetta was available at that time; many 365GT 2+2 were made in that color and I am pretty sure I have seen two 365 California Spyders in that shade as well. After a little digging, I see that it was available on the 250 PF coupe, and supposedly on the 330 GTS, but I have never seen that in person. But, since it started with the 166, maybe they had a can laying around in back? Either way, it is still a pretty car.
