I'm replacing my front shocks with some rebuilt units. The rear replacement was pretty straight forward. But the fronts appear to need a required step in removing the shocks. After disconnecting the torsion bar, does the cross bar on the lower wish bone need to be removed in order to get the shock out. There does not appear to be enough room for the shock to drop through the lower wish bone. The Manual just says to remove both upper and lower attachment nuts-- Are there any other issues to be concerned with? I see the shins on both sides of the lower attachment point. Other than that ...... I would send a pic, but for some reason my browser is not opening up enough options to attache one. Daveb

Hi Dave,as I remember it is just a simple bolt off bolt on procedure.Take the tension off the spring with a floor jack and unbolt the shock .I don't recall if you need to unbolt the lower ball joint and cross bar but it will be very easy if you do.Just remember to keep the shims in proper order. Good luck,Mike

Hi Dave It is some time since I replaced the front shocks but there were no difficulties that I can recall. I am pretty sure I did not need to remove the cross piece on the lower wishbone. As Mike says take care with the shims. I cable tied the shims on each side together while I fiddled around with fitting the shocks. I am sure you will have no problems Best regards Ian L

Hello Ian I got side tracked last week- so I didn't work on the car. Today it was sprinkling all day here in California- at least where I am- so we are all unclear if this is a sign of a large pending earthquake and just the end of the world as we know it. It just does not rain in California. I did manage to fix an electrical issue on my driving lights today in a dry garage. All the lights on the car are functioning as intended. Tomorrow I'll work on the shocks. The repair manual, in the reinstall of the dismantled front suspension shows that the shocks are installed after the suspension is bolted up- good for me Daveb

Dave Please explain what a sprinkling of rain is as it is an unknown event to me? Here we have had gale force winds, torrential rain, snow & temps at or below freezing over the past two weeks1 I sincerely hope that you do not suffer anything in the way of earthquakes. I know the electrical system is challenging so well done there & just wondering how much more work you have left to do? Best wishes

Ian A sprinkling of rain, is when you walk outside and the tops of your shoes look moist. A serious weather condition here in California. Torrential rain, yes we do have that occasional. The last time was 4 weeks ago and they still have not open the coast highway a block north of my house. Can you explain "freezing" temperatures outside of a ski resort. Last week it was unbearable here as the temperatures dipped below 54 degrees (f). I had to wear long pants that day. It would appear that we may be entering another ice age. There is no work left to do on my car Other than polishing nuts and bolts. Every thing is in working order. I'm going to enter it In Pasadena concorso in April. I'm just having fun with the car. I was unable to get the front shocks off without having to remove ball joints or other supension parts. I'm just going to wait until I actully need to replace them. In the mean time have a nice new shiny set ready to go.

Hi dave I am pleased the car is ready for Concours & wish you well with your entry. The technical bit is "freezing" is when your windscreen wipers are frozen to the screen & you have to use de-icer to release them. I am assuming you have de-icer in SoCal!! Seriously though I cannot imagine what it must be like to live in a lovely warm climate & to be able to take your car out whenever. Incidentally I did once see a pic of a California GTC4 with the windscreen wipers removed. The owners rationale was the car never went out in the rain & there wasn't many rainy days anyway Best of luck Ian L Manchester UK

Thanks Ian, I think that was d Romer's car without the wipers. He only put them on for shows. Pretty much, don,t drive it unless it's dry outside. Yes we are blessed with the year round driving weather- there are no storage / old gas issues. Drive it weekly every every other week it's something comes up. No expectations on showing it, just want to get a water level mark. Dave
