Winter inspection revealed torn rubber boots on the lower ball joints. Are there any secrets or watch-outs before I start? Or is this best done by a Ferrari experienced front-end shop (closest to me would be some 8 hours drive)? (Search seemed to reveal nothing helpful) Thank you, Bruce

Hi Bruce, as I remember it is simple. Drop the shock and just bolt off/bolt on.If you are just replacing the boot you don't have to worry about the shims or a fresh alignment. Good luck, Mike

Yes, as Mike says, this is a refreshingly simple job. Unlike most of the cars I have/work on where the balljoints are riveted to the control arms, the balljoints on the C4 are just bolted in place. And you don't even have to bolt them if you're just replacing a boot. If you do unbolt them then keep track of the shims. You might need a pickle fork to get the stem out of the upright but you might have luck just tapping the upright a few times. Good luck.

Hi Bruce As the others have said & as far as I can remember,an eight hour drive is unnecessary. Best regards Ian L

I did just the lower and it was relatively simple. A pickle fork popped down the ball joints easily. Lining up the five inner holes for the larger bolt was a bit tricky but the job is done. Thank you for the encouragement. Bruce
