Looking for Part #623-604 or #524-468

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for these parts.
These are Plungers that are held in by a spring that keep the shifter in the center position so it sort of guides you to shift into the correct gear you want. Without this spring assisting you, you tend to put the car into 5th gear when you want to go into 3rd gear..There is one for each side of the transmission.
I appreciate any help..

I don't quite understand your problem,
Since you are holding the pieces you need, you have presumably borrowed some,
If so any machine shop can easily copy them.
Also, they are the same both sides, so is #524-468 a later part number for the same thing ?
If you want to buy them try Maranello in the UK, it is surprising what they carry.

Hi Neil,
Yes, part#524-468 is the latest number.
The part I'm showing is the part from my car that seems to be worn on the tip.
I think its supposed to be longer.
Having a machine shop make one is probably my only chance.
I will try Maranello a for sure.

Mike,
I doubt that they can wear enough to be significant.
Much more likely that the springs have weakened , or broken - or are completely wrong !
They need to be pretty strong, because of the leverage.

Hi Neil,
The shop I'm using is called Exotic Performance in the Marina Del Rey, and they are going to remove the other plug on the other side of the transmission to compare the parts. I agree with you about the wear seems impossible. I did ask them about the spring worthiness and they are looking into it..

If you have a problem with the spec of the springs, I have a friend with a 365 GT4 2+2 with the gearbox out of the car.
They are similar to the GTC/4 box apart from different ratios, so the springs should be the same - I can check part numbers with him, and take one out to measure if you need me to.

The problem starts with the selector shaft blade which has a very coarse surface finish. The problem is compounded as the shaft was then hardened - it acts like a coarse file and wears the plungers until there is excessive "slop" in the gate. The problem seems to have been cured on (the later) GT4 2+2 and 400 gearboxes.

The fix is quite easy if you have access to the most basic lathe. I bored a hole in the worn ends - 4 or 5mm from memory, and used the best grade of Loctite to fix drill shafts into the ends. Drills are hard and readily available. Then I ground the ends of the drill shafts to a rounded point. The most important thing is to linish the selector rod faces smooth so the problem does not recur.

The picture shows the repaired plungers reinstalled.
